This is something which we get asked a lot at MR Jamie Stevens and unfortunately there isn’t a definitive answer.
Everyone is unique. But we’ve provided an ‘on-average’ model with some things to look out for to try and monitor your hair loss and how to take back a bit of control.
Each strand of hair will roughly live for 4 years. When the cycle is over, the hair follicle falls out and within 6 months, a new one appears. With Male Pattern Baldness, hair follicles fall, but do not re-grow.
Research reveals that one-fifth of all men will experience some sort of hair loss by the age of 20. On average, it can take 15 to 25 years to go bald once Male Pattern Baldness has developed. But, in some cases it can happen as quickly as just 5 years.
Gradual hair loss can be difficult to notice. So, monitoring is crucial to ensure you slow down the rate of hair loss. As mentioned in our last blog post, there are some key signs you can look out for:
HAIR FALLING OUT
We lose roughly 100 hairs a day, but if you see an increase of hairs on your pillow, then this might be a sign you’re losing more than the average person.
RECEDING HAIR LINE
This is the most obvious as you’ll see it everyday when you look in the mirror. Before it becomes noticeable, you may notice your hair just isn’t styling the way it used to. This is another sign you may be suffering with a receding hairline.
This is harder to monitor as this will be centralised around the crown of your head. Use a mirror or the front facing camera on your phone to monitor this area and see if you need to start styling your hair in another way.
Taking control of your hair loss will help to slow down the process and reduce its aggressivity. We’ve listed some steps below which you can use everyday and adopt into your hair care regime, to help reduce the rate of hair loss:
STEP 1: START WITH YOUR SHOWER
Use shower products which work with your hair follicles to help strengthen weak roots and help nourish hair. Our Anti Hair-Loss Shampoo & Conditioner does just this, by using our System PPX formulation to deliver intense hydration to the scalp and reduce the rate of hair loss.
STEP 2: PAT DRY HAIR
Guys tend to rush showers and dry off in a hurry first thing in the morning. But what you shouldn’t rush is drying your hair post-shower. Rubbing wet hair with a towel damages your hair follicles, causing it to break. So we recommend pat drying to help keep hair in place.
STEP 3: DRY HAIR BEFORE BED
After an evening of exercise, falling asleep with wet hair after your shower might seem tempting. But this can cause damage to your hair follicles, as we move around a lot during sleeping which can cause strain on your scalp. We recommend gently drying hair before you go to sleep, or, potentially investing in a silk pillowcase…
STEP 4: USE SOFT STYLING PRODUCTS
A hard wax or gel may seem tempting to get that finished look, but harder styling products tend to tug at hair, causing strain on hair follicles. This can encourage looser hairs to fall out prematurely. Our MR Style Range ensures a gentler application that works with your natural hair and not against it, causing less tension on your hair.
